Triangle Oktoberfest at Booth Amphitheatre Set for Oct. 3-4

Rotary-Sponsored Event to Feature Family-Friendly Activities, Authentic Food & Drink

June 17, 2015, Cary, N.C. — Cary’s Booth Amphitheatre will play host to an authentic Triangle-wide Oktoberfest the weekend of Oct. 3 and 4 designed to celebrate community and cultural diversity. Tickets for this family-friendly event will go on sale starting June 19 at noon through the Booth Amphitheatre Box Office, or by calling 1-800-514-3849.

Triangle Oktoberfest began as a joint effort between the Rotary Clubs of Apex Sunrise and Cary MacGregor. Previous events have attracted thousands of participants, and this year’s event is expected to surpass previous attendance records.

The event will start Oct. 3 at noon with the traditional Bürgermeister tapping of the first keg, called “O’Zapst is” and also yelled from the crowd. The organizers are sparing little expense to make the entire experience as Bavarian as possible.

This year’s Triangle Oktoberfest will feature the following activities:

  • Kinder Platz Kids Zone (featuring bounce house, obstacle course, sports and more)
  • Weiner dog races
  • Variety of German foods
  • 26-member Little German Band and Dancers
  • Contest for best German-dressed participants
  • Pretzel toss
  • Display of German cars
  • Hammerschlagen (relay team for nailing a spike in and old oak stump),
  • Pretzel toss
  • Display of German cars
  • Football viewing tent with Biergarten
  • Sanctioned beer-judging competition
  • Triangle’s Largest Beer Stein Hoist competition (with the winners being entered to win a trip to compete in the National Final on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”)

Proceeds from this year’s event will benefit Alzheimers North Carolina (AlzNC), the charity of choice, to assist their statewide efforts in supporting the 170,000+ North Carolina families dealing with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias. “We’re delighted to be continuing our partnership with Rotary, addressing Alzheimer’s disease locally and globally,” said Alice W. Watkins, Executive Director of Alzheimers North Carolina.

Oktoberfest will begin after the 23rd Annual AlzNC Triangle Walk, held at Booth Amphitheater on Saturday, Oct. 3 from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. The walk is free and open to the public, no ticket required.

Schedule and ticket information for Oktoberfest are as follows:

  • Saturday, Oct. 3: noon – 10 p.m., $20 for 16 and up, $5 for ages 6 to 15, free for 5 and under
  • Sunday, Oct. 4: noon – 6 p.m., $15 for 16 and up, $5 for ages 6 to 15, free for 5 and under
  • Two-Day Ticket: $30 for 16 and up

“The idea to do a larger, more regional charity event started from the success of the Apex Sunrise Rotary Club’s competitive BBQ Pig Fest Festival,” said Triangle Oktoberfest Burgermeister Randy Bosse. “The Cary MacGregor Rotary Club agreed to partner with us in this effort, and a new event was born. The Town of Cary has jumped in with both feet as an official partner to showcase the culture of Bavaria, home to many German employers based in our region, as well as many local residents of German descent. With the support of so many talented and dedicated people, this is sure to be an Oktoberfest you won’t want to miss. ”
